2015 Review
It has been a busy year in the genealogical world so I thought I would finish the year by reviewing it!
Obviously, the biggest news of the year is the digitisation of the 1939 Register available on Find My Past. It's not quite a census but it is a great substitute! It has helped knock down some pesky brick walls and has confirmed where our ancestors & relatives lived back during the second world war.
But we have also seen the new TV programme, Family Finders, on the BBC which showed us stories of lost family members being reunited through genealogical research. It was a very moving programme which is being repeated on daytime television. I would personally recommend this show!
Staying with the BBC, we saw the return of Who Do You Think You Are? In my series reviews I marked each show out of 5 and the series got an average of 3.4/5 - there are definitely episodes of a high-caliber that I would recommend as well.
You can see the reviews here: Part 1 & Part 2.
We also saw my genealogy quiz! So far it has been taken 194 times and completed 133 times. The average score achieved was 52%. I will try and make another one next year that will be more universal.
I've also been compiling a project or One Name Study on the Shire family/families of Somerset. This project is nearly complete and has developed my understanding of the family as a whole. If you get time yourself I would recommend you doing one for one of your own lines.
I may write an article next week depending how busy I am at this time of year! If not it has been a fantastic year genealogy wise and I hope you find 2016 the same! Have a safe and merry Christmas and a happy new year!
