A Genealogical Christmas
With Christmas coming up, I thought I could link Christmas and Genealogy together, for a Genealogical Christmas.
Firstly, I'd like to start with a poem I found on the internet to get us into the festive mood. Because it is very long, I've linked it instead of having the whole text. Here It is.
Secondly, I'm going to talk about the presents you can ask for, if you want something genealogy associated...
Next, if you've got some time off, you could try some free trials that are available. If you haven't before. These are some of the websites out there. These usually last 14 days. Although, you will have to remember to cancel it if you don't want to pay afterwards.
Almost all genealogy sites, if not free already, have free trials but do remember to cancel if you don't want to pay the full amount afterwards.
Finally, to finish off here is a Genealogical Twelve Days of Christmas:
On the twelfth day of Christmas
My true love gave to me
Twelve census searches
Eleven family bibles
Ten e-mail contacts
Nine headstone rubbings
Eight wills and admons
Seven miners mining
Six second cousins
Five coats of arms
Four GEDCOM files
Three old wills
Two CD-ROMs
And a branch in my family tree.

Secondly, I'm going to talk about the presents you can ask for, if you want something genealogy associated...
- A relatively simple present you can ask for is a Birth, Marriage or Death certificate. These cost £9.25 each and can be bought from the GRO. I'm getting two of these!
- Another present for under £10 is a 1 month subscription to The British Newspaper Archive (BNA). This present will cost £9.95 and can be found here.
- You could also get a 1 month subscription to sites such as Ancestry (£10.95 - £18.95) where you can find a vast amount of information about your past.
- If you don't think you could see all you want in 1 month from the BNA you could get 40 pages for £19.95. This works on a pay as you go scheme and you'll be able to see these newspaper pages for 365 days.
Next, if you've got some time off, you could try some free trials that are available. If you haven't before. These are some of the websites out there. These usually last 14 days. Although, you will have to remember to cancel it if you don't want to pay afterwards.
- Ancestry
- Family Historian (Download, lasts 30 Days)
- Findmypast
- Genes Reunited
- The Genealogist
