Coming Home
Firstly, I should apologise for not uploading an article for a few weeks; I got caught up in other matters. Also, I would have posted this yesterday but there was some problems with the site.
Genealogy has grown massively in popularity in the past few years and the standout TV programme is obviously BBC's Who Do You Think You Are series; currently on now. However, there is another BBC genealogy programme that very much goes under the radar of most people. It's not Heir Hunters, nor Family Finders; but Coming Home.
Not many have heard of BBC Wales' Coming Home series, which started in 2004! It is currently on it's eleventh series; however, it is not on TV that much. Also, you will not see on most BBC channels as it is only shown on BBC Wales. The show is similar to Who Do You Think You Are? but with Welsh celebrities. It involves them delving into the past to look at their family history. One major difference to WDYTYA? is at the start, the celebrity is usually given a (big) printed copy of their family tree.
The latest episode, the first of series 11, is about the actor Ioan Gruffudd. It can be seen on BBC iPlayer here, if you missed it. Although it's not put together as well as WDYTYA? it is an interesting watch for family historians; so I would recommend it. That's the only episode on iPlayer that is available at present - however, there are some on YouTube that can be watched for free, such as Michael Sheen and Shakin' Stevens. The latter, is interesting as he was motivated by his ancestry enough to create an album about it!
If you enjoy watching the programme and find some more episodes; comment them below so others can watch them too!
