Old Maps And Other Interesting Pieces!
Recently I've come across a new (well for me!) part of the British Library website. There you can view some very old maps and some other interesting pieces.
All you have to do is go onto their website and type in the place your ancestor or relative may have lived into the search box in the top right hand corner. Then up should come some results of maps, photos and records. However, if nothing comes up - try typing in place names of the surrounding area, especially if it's by a town or city, as it may be included on another map. I should add that not everywhere in the UK is included yet so you may want to keep checking the site every now and then as a map or photo may eventually come up.
Here is a map of the Honiton area of Devon from 1806:

As you can see this is very old map; but could be interesting if you have ancestors in the area. As it's old and very hard to read and make out the place names; it is often a good idea to use their 'Interactive Zoomable Image' tool to zoom in - this feature does need flash to work, which most computers or laptops generally have.
There are also photos and drawings, on their website, which can also help you gain an insight on what your relative may have seen in their day-to-day life. This one is of Newcastle-Upon-Tyne:
