The New Ancestry
I'll start by saying I apologise for there being no article last week, I was on holiday. I did put a message at the end of the last article saying that there wasn't going to be an article, but I don't know if everybody got it.
If you’re a member on Ancestry, especially one who has a family tree on there, you will have seen their new design.
They have made it look more like the app; if you have it you’ll know what I mean! This is because instead of a white background with yellowy-brown boxes it’s now a grey background with half white boxes with the other half a photo box.
Although there have been problems with it… People have moved across the pound due to it defaulting to the USA if no country was originally placed in. An example, which I have seen people do on Ancestry, is putting ‘Flanders’ down if they had a relative who died in World War One. This will be changed to Flanders, New York. Certainly not where many of the soldiers of WW1 lost their lives.
Another change is the ‘Lifestory’ section, this does have interesting information like birth and deaths of siblings and parents. However, it can contain a lot of useless information like the construction of Big Ben etc. But you can ‘ignore’ these when they come up.
Also, they haven’t come up with a new version of Member Connect, but they are working on it.
You can revert back to the ‘Old Ancestry’ by clicking your username, which should bring down a dropdown list, and click ‘Old Ancestry’ (third from the bottom). This will give you chance to leave feedback of the ‘New Ancestry’.
Personally, I will stick with the ‘New Ancestry’ as it will soon become permanent, so I may as well get used to using it.
Also on a sort of separate note, till the end of August, you can view the Francis Frith collection on Ancestry for free.
What do you think of the New Ancestry, feel free to comment below!
