Where Were They?
This week's article may help you in discovering where your relatives may have lived, or you might find it interesting to know what the land your house is on now looked 100 years ago.
Well you can do this because the National Library of Scotland has kindly put a collection of maps from the whole of Great Britain, Ireland and Belgium (WW2) together to create one big map. You can search this map for postcodes as well as place names, by searching in the 'Gazetteer / NG Reference' box or you can pick a county in the box below.
Alternatively, you can choose which map you want to look at; you go down to the 'Select a Category' box and click where you want to see. Once there you might be able to see more than one map for your selected area and you can see this by clicking the 'Select a Map' tab.
To help with your search they have also added a way you can see today's map, via Google, by changing the transparency of the old map. You can do this by sliding the arrow under the 'Change Transparency of Overlay' heading.
