FreeBMD Postems
You have probably used FreeBMD to help you find your English and Welsh relatives birth, marriage and death records. This would then allow you to buy the corresponding certificates - which at £9.25 a pop can be fairly expensive especially if you buy the wrong one.
However, FreeBMD give you the opportunity to help others not buying the wrong certificate and possibly saving others money on certificates. You can do this in the form of a 'postem' - this is a little message you can leave behind on the record of your relative. To do this search for the person who's certificate you bought and click on the little glasses icon by the side of the record. Then just above the scan photo it should say 'You may add a postem on this entry' - click on the underlined 'add a postem' and it should take you to a new page showing the record transcription along with a box in which you can type in 250 characters. What you write is up to you in this box - however I would suggest adding information about the person or if you bought the certificate of another person then you can add what is on the certificate. You can add your email address so possible relatives can email you.
As an example, I created a postem for Dan(iel) Shire. He died on the 27 October 1866 - aged 25 (See this article for more information about him). I kept the postem fairly simple due to the limiting characters and wrote about his close family and date of death.

You will then have to complete the CAPTCHA and click 'create'. It may take up to 24 hours to post your postem so you may have to be patient.
Postems will show on a record, when searching, as a envelope next to the glasses. If everybody did this with their certificates it would make family research a lot easier!
