University of Strathclyde's Revamped Genealogy Course
The University of Strathclyde is giving you another chance to take their free online course on FutureLearn; available by clicking here. The course has been revamped using the comments of their first course as advice. The course is 6 weeks and is in it's second week but you can easily catch up.
The course is mainly set out to beginners but can be helpful to the more experienced of us. In my opinion their first course was very basic but also helpful for giving links and interesting to watch how one of their actual students at the university, Chris Atkin, had found out about her German family which immigrated to the UK.
Week 1 of the course is fairly simple and teaches you about the very basics of starting a family tree. It is practically identical as the first version of the course; but good to go over again.
This time there is also tasks for you to do - unlike the first time. In week 1 the task is to download and transcribe a census return for Trifel Muddock's family in the 1861 & 1871 Census available here. [You may need to be a signed in member of the course to access this download.]
You will find my transcription under the comment box on this page.
The second week's task is to search using wildcards. As well as the tasks (which are optional) there is also the addition of small study groups as well.
My personal guidance of the course is if you are a beginner I would recommend the course as well as if you've had a fair amount of experience with genealogy also.
