Who Do You Think You Are? Series 12 Review, Part 2
As promised here is the second part of the series 12 review. If you missed part 1 you can view it here.
Next up in the series is Anne Reid. In this episode we found that her 2x Great Grandfather John Reid was transported to Australia to do 7 years labour for forging signatures to say that people were backing him when they weren't. Anne then traveled to Australia to find out more information of what he did. Sadly, Anne didn't really do any research by herself and her reactions weren't particularly realistic - especially when she said that she was "proud to be a ANCESTOR of a convict" . ★★☆☆☆
A week later we had Frank Gardner. Probably the best in the series. In this episode we found out that he was the descendant of Sir Michael Stanhope, a Tudor knight who was beheaded for conspiring to kill John Dudley - the 1st Duke of Northumberland. We then found out that Sir Michael was the descendant of King Edward I and thus King William the Conqueror. This means that when his family kept stating that they came over with the Normans - they were right! However this is probably just chance. ★★★★★
Then we saw Anita Rani travel to India to learn about 'Partition of India'. I found this interesting as I didn't really know anything about the partition let alone what Anne found out about her family. She then met Bier Hador Singh and we found out that many women and girls committed suicide or were killed by his father to stop them being violated by the Muslims.
Although she didn't travel far back in time; she then went to tell her uncle - who actually new everything! - Typical for most genealogists... ★★★★☆
Next, we saw Mark Gatiss discover his Irish roots. We discovered that he was the descendant of the O'Kane family through his mother. We then traveled further back in time to find out his storytelling 3x Great Grandfather George O'Mullan. However, I felt that the episode dragged on a bit and they could of gone in to a bit more detail or do another line. ★★☆☆☆
Finally was Frances de la Tour. I thought this was a good way to end the series and I got to see an apothecary (which some of my ancestors worked in so I was always going to be interested it)! She had a good head-start as her Grandfather drew up a family tree. Anyway - we discovered that she was descended from the Delaval family and that her ancestor Maria married twice and her two husbands went to court as Captain Alan Hyde Gardner attained a court conviction against her second husband Henry Jadis and received £1,000. A fitting way to end the series. ★★★★☆
