Welsh Newspapers
The National Library of Wales' digitalised collection of Welsh newspapers can be a great help if you have ancestors or relatives who have lived in Wales and some of the surrounding areas (such as Liverpool) between 1804 and 1919. Although the collection has been online for a while; I haven't wrote an article on it and thought that it may be of help to some of you.
To view their collection click here, type in someone's name or place and then click search. You can also choose between Welsh or English language newspapers as well.
It seems that one of my ancestors, Charles Holden Brunt, got a lot of publicity in the newspapers. Some were due to misfortune and some down to rowdiness! Charles was a butcher who lived and worked in Newport but also had a farm in Malpas, just north of the city, where he would rear his animals. He was born in the city in 1845 and died there as well in 1909.
One newspaper I have found for him is about a flood drowning some of his sheep:

Although, at least nobody in the family was killed unlike Mr Adams. Mr Adams or Richard Adams was also a farmer near Charles' farm but he went out to try and save his pigs but sadly he was pulled away with the tide and drowned with them. Richard was a farmer, originally from Somerset, who moved to Newport where he met his wife, Emma, and had children with her there. Richard was only 36 when he drowned.
This is only one of the many articles that Charles was mentioned in and is a relatively short one as well. I have found his death notice in the newspaper, in Welsh, and have had to translate it into English (as I don't speak Welsh) using online translators - which can be very helpful if you're in a similar situation to me.
